November 4 Special Election: Dates & Deadlines

California will hold a statewide special election on Tuesday, November 4. Voters will decide Proposition 50, a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment that would authorize a one-time, mid-decade congressional map for 2026–2030, temporarily replacing the map drawn by the independent citizens’ commission.

Mark these dates on your calendar

  • Ballots mailed beginning: October 6
  • Ballot drop-off locations open: October 7
  • Last day to register to vote: October 20
  • Early in-person voting (Voter’s Choice Act counties) begins: October 25
  • Election Day: November 4
  • Vote-by-mail deadlines: Ballots must be postmarked on or before November 4 and received by November 12.

All active registered voters will receive a vote-by-mail ballot. Return it by mail, at a drop box, or to your county elections office.
