Contra Costa News: New California Bill Will Recognize Eid as an Official State Holiday

On Thursday, March 12, Assemblymember Matt Haney and community members gathered at the Islamic Society of San Francisco to announce the introduction of AB 2017. If passed, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha would be recognized as an official state holiday. This recognition is significant for the over one million California Muslims in practicing their faith without penalty, along with signifying California as a welcoming state.

CAIR-CA Legislative and Government Affairs Director Oussama Mokeddem attended and spoke, representing the country’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization.
