CAIR-LA REPS ON THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN COMMUNITY ACTIVISM

Fri., March 1 2013: CAIR-LA’s Executive Director Hussam Ayloush and Programs Coordinator Zienab Abdelgany discussed the importance of community activism and the significant role that youth partake in it at the Al-Ansar Mosque in Anaheim. Additionally, students learned about their rights on campus in college and high school.

CAIR-LA’S QAZI AT CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE’S DIVERSITY DAY

Sat., March 2 2013: CAIR-LA’s Deputy Executive Director and lead staff attorney Ameena Qazi shed light on Islamophobia and effective means of countering it for a student-organized event at the California State University of Northridge.

WEEK EDUCATES STUDENTS ON ISLAM’S HISTORY, BELIEFS

Mon., March 4 2013: The Muslim Student Union kicked off Islam Awareness Week Monday with an informational event called Islam 101. Speakers Zienab Abdelgany and Yasmin Nouh from the Council on American Islamic Relations gave students in attendance a brief introduction to the history and practices of Islam.

CAIR-CA AT THE CAPITOL IN SACRAMENTO

Tues., March 5 2013: CAIR-CA Statewide Policy and Government Relations Coordinator Adel Syed and CAIR-SV Chapter Coordinator Mohamed Ali met with Sacramento lawmakers, alongside members of the California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC). On the agenda were meetings with legislators, a meeting with the governor’s office, and a briefing for legislators and their staff on priorities for immigrant rights groups in the state. Wed., March 6 2013: CAIR-LA’s Executive Director Hussam Ayloush delivered a presentation before a crowd of nearly 200 students at an event organized by the Muslim Students Association, which aimed to educate fellow students on Islam and Muslims in America.
