Many of our dedicated CAIR-LA community members display a strong passion for advocacy work and community building.

So many of you have asked us: “What’s next?” and “How can I help?”

That’s where the CAIR Community Captains Network (CCN) comes in. There are more than 500,000 American Muslims in Southern California alone! In order to begin mobilizing our communities around important issues, we must be organized – and that begins at the local level.

As a part of a larger network, our Captains will:

  • Learn how to identify key issues in their community and analyze potential solutions with their designated Community Organizer through various organizing skills (i.e. power mapping, conducting one-to-one meetings)
  • Assist in various projects/campaigns (i.e. Census 2020, Get Out the Vote) with the CAIR-LA Policy & Advocacy Department
  • Become a flagship leader for their local community, whether it’s at their Masjid or inb their Neighborhood – they will be our first point of contact and serve as a connection between CAIR’s Community Organizers and their community
    • Ex: College iPledge cards for Census 2020
  • Develop a better understanding of what it means to be civically engaged by meeting with their Congressperson

The first workshop is from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the CAIR-LA office.
