Rafi Zia

Immigrants’ Rights Case Worker

Rafi Zia is a Immigrants’ Rights Case Worker at CAIR-LA. Prior to coming to CAIR, he worked as an ISO with the USCIS Field Office in San Francisco and as an Asylum Officer with the Los Angeles Asylum Office. Rafi worked at Maryland University as a Senior Faculty Specialist for four years, and he was an assistant professor of foreign language at the U.S. Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, where he taught foreign languages for over five years. He worked with various institutions of higher learning (i.e., MIT, San Diego State University, and L-3 Communications) as a course developer/test developer/Cryptologic Language Instructor. 

Rafi earned his master’s in organizational leadership from the School of Business and Professional Studies at Chapman University and a bachelor’s degree in law and political science from Peshawar University. Rafi speaks five languages (Dari, Pashto, Urdu, English, and Arabic.)

Rafi loves CAIR’s mission and has always wanted to contribute to its noble cause. Now, he is very excited to be part of the CAIR family. 

He Likes to play volleyball in his spare time and is also a martial artist (Kung Fu).
