(LOS ANGELES, CA – 5/24/2022) – The Los Angeles office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) today condemned the alarming display of antisemitism in West Hollywood and Beverly Hills and offered support to the Jewish community.

On Sunday, May 22, white supremacists arrived at the Beverly Hilton in a truck covered with racist and antisemitic slogans, including “Resisting the Great Replacement=Greatest Threat??”, which alludes to the “Great Replacement” theory—a conspiracy theory that claims nonwhite individuals will “replace” the white race as a part of an overarching political agenda.

The individuals and the truck involved in this hateful incident are currently being investigated as a hate crime by local officials.

In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said:

We condemn the sickening display of antisemitism by white supremacists on Sunday. The harassment of innocent hotel guests demonstrates the extent to which racists will go to show their intolerance of people of various backgrounds and beliefs.

“These groups espouse the same hateful views that inspired the Buffalo, NY, shooter who killed 10 people. The ‘Great Replacement’ conspiracy theory is a threat to all minority communities, and it must be challenged.

“There is no place in our society for antisemitism. We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community as they continue to face increased hate and discrimination.”

This incident occurred just a few months after antisemitic flyers were found in Beverly Hills and Pasadena blaming the COVID-19 pandemic on the Jewish community.

As a result of the increase in hate and bullying targeting people of faith as well as those of African, Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI), Black, immigrant, Middle Eastern descent, CAIR-LA launched the Center for the Prevention of Hate and Bullying to address these incidents more proactively.

CAIR-LA is Southern California’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice and empower American Muslims.
