(LOS ANGELES, CA – 1/5/2024) – The Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA) today condemned the racist vandalism allegedly targeting a family in a neighborhood in Los Angeles, Calif.

Over the holiday season, a resident of the San Pedro neighborhood woke to find his car vandalized with a racial slur and swastikas and the tires slashed. He reported previously being targeted in a similar manner twice, including having his truck set on fire, and his family is now looking to move out of the neighborhood.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is currently investigating this incident as a hate crime.

In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director Hussam Ayloush said:

“We strongly condemn this blatant act of hate and bigotry against the family. Everyone deserves the right to feel safe, especially in their own homes and neighborhoods. This incident highlights the urgent need to combat hate crimes and address intolerance and prejudice in our communities.

“We thank the LAPD for their prompt response in investigating this incident as a hate crime and look forward to justice being served.”
