Over 1,500 community members, partner organizations, religious leaders, elected officials, dignitaries and supporters attended CAIR-LA’s 26th Annual Gala, themed “Resilient in Our Pursuit of Justice,” last Saturday evening at the Anaheim Marriott.

The event raised more than $500,000 in support of CAIR-LA’s civil rights, immigration and advocacy work.

The evening, which was emceed by CAIR-SFBA Executive Director Zahra Billoo, Esq., featured inspiring speeches from prominent members of the American Muslim community.

Shaykh AbdulNasir Jangda, who is the founder, director, and an instructor at Qalam Institute, delivered the keynote address for the event. Sh. Jangda highlighted the importance of our resilience as a community as we work to combat discrimination, Islamophobia, and hate.

Member of the Exonerated Five Dr. Yusef Salaam was presented with the Champion of Justice Award. He gave a moving speech about how his faith and the pursuit of justice transformed his early adulthood.

Former South African Ambassador to the U.S. Ebrahim Rasool, a former leader in the anti-apartheid movement and a leader in the African National Congress, shared his experience with community mobilizing, political activism, and the sacrifices needed to make a difference in society.
