February 1, 2016

Dear community members and friends,

I am pleased to share that our largest civic engagement event of the year is upon us! Not sure what it may be? It is none other than our 5th Annual Muslim Day at the Capitol, taking place on Monday, April 25th.

This program was first initiated with only a group of 50 Muslims. Groups of community members from across the state, young and old, caravanned to the Capitol in order to meet their officials for the first time. In that first year, it was inspiring to see how our elected officials engaged with us sincerely on issues impacting our community and Californians at large.

For many of our lawmakers, it was, surprisingly, the first time that they were meeting and interacting with a Muslim constituent. With that in mind, it’s clear that the opportunity to build relationships with our elected officials and the potential for engagement and progress is bountiful. And every year, with your participation, we do just that.

Our advocacy during this annual program brings fruitful change and real results. For the past four years, bills we have advocated for have actually been signed into law by the Governor. Last year, two of our significant victories centered on improving our digital privacy laws and addressing unjust pay disparity between Californian men and women (SB 178 and SB 358), respectively.

Watch this short video below to see how your past efforts brought real change in California!

In five short years, it is remarkable to see that program attendance has jumped to nearly 500 Muslims! This year, we want to double in size, visibility, and engagement potential. We want to bring 1,000 Muslims to the Capitol.

Will you register today and join us for a full day of trainings, meetings, lobbying, and empowerment? Students, families, and community members of all ages and locations are encouraged to attend.

  • Zero lobbying experience? We provide in-person and online training.

  • Don’t have a vehicle? We provide transportation from your region to the Capitol.

We will do our best to facilitate your participation in this key program.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity and take part of the civic engagement process. Help advocate for fair and just policies.
