CAIR: San Diego Muslims to Announce Creation of ‘Forum on Religious Freedom’ in Response to ‘Muslim Ban’ Executive Order

(SAN DIEGO, CA, 1/29/17) – On Tuesday, January 31, the San Diego chapter of the Council on American-Islamic-Relations San Diego (CAIR San Diego), an office of the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, and other Muslim leaders will hold a news conference to announce the creation of a “Forum on Religious Freedom” in response to President Trump’s “Muslim Ban” executive order.

The objective of the Forum on Religious Freedom is to create a broad coalition and unite a group of organizations and individuals dedicated to challenging Islamophobia and the systematic attempt to marginalize the American Muslim community.

This effort is a direct result of the growing anti-Muslim atmosphere and the groundswell of support from organizations and fellow citizens in defense of the civil rights of American Muslims. At the news conference, CAIR San Diego will share a list of community organizations that have already committed to joining this effort.

“The ‘Muslim ban’ represents a myopic worldview and a blatant undermining of America’s most cherished values,” said CAIR-San Diego Executive Director Hanif Mohebi. “We urge community organizations, educational institutions, local government bodies, responsible corporations, and all people of conscience, to take a stand against this attempt to normalize Islamophobia.”
