Work Location: Based in CAIR’s Santa Clara office. CAIR-SFBA staff are currently working a hybrid schedule, with three days in-person and two days remote. Requires some travel throughout the Bay Area.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the Executive Director. Oversees communication and marketing vendors.

About the Role: The CAIR-SFBA Development Director will work with CAIR-SFBA’s Executive Director and Development Specialist, along with CAIR California’s development staff from across the state. The development director will manage all activities that raise funds for CAIR-SFBA, with a focus on strengthening existing donor relations and substantially increasing the number of individual supporters. The development director leads our annual fundraising plan that includes fundraising goals and targets for grant proposals, Ramadan campaigns, monthly donors, the Gala, donation appeals, and other campaigns.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual Gifts  

  • Identify, develop, and implement strategies to cultivate new donors, including Muslim owned businesses, law firms, and individuals in the medical and technology sectors 
  • Develop multi-channel fundraising initiatives through annual fundraising appeals, events, and campaigns (includes digital campaigns, social media, direct mail, crowdfunding, and other channels) 
  • Meet with donors and potential donors to create a group of enthusiastic supporters 
  • Train and prepare the Management team and governance board for donor meetings 

 Foundation and Other Institutional Gifts 

  • Identify new foundation and other institutional support 
  • Draft grant proposals and reports in collaboration with colleagues and make sure that all proposal and reporting deadlines are met 
  • Lead the grants management department and provide leadership and final sign off on grant and foundation applications
  • Develop and maintain professional and friendly relationships with funders and update them on how their grant funds are being utilized throughout the year

Major Gifts, Workplace, and Year End Campaigns 

  • Develop a plan to increase the revenue from our year-end giving campaign 
  • Design and run our year-end, workplace, and major gift campaigns 
  • Develop and implement strategies for a planned giving campaign 

  Communications 

  • Collaborate with communications staff to produce fundraising and marketing materials 
  • Assist with developing content for the CAIR-SFBA website and social media  
  • Develop messages, materials, and explanations of our work used in our development campaigns, including website fundraising pages, and communications with our donors  
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist the board, management and other staff with their solicitation efforts (e.g., provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel, and help with donor communications)
  • Oversee the department in securing sponsorship and advertisements for annual banquet and special events/programs.

Special Events 

  • Plan and direct our annual fundraising event 
  • Secure financial support in the form of corporate and individual contributions and sponsorships, and in-kind donations  
  • Manage a master calendar to reflect the communication with donors, special events, and campaigns 
  • Manage outreach team supporting CAIR-SFBA’s fundraising campaigns, education programs, advocacy actions, and services to the community

Administration and Management 

  • Assure recording, tracking, and reporting of gifts from donors. Work with support staff to maintain accurate and current data files, including giving histories, and donor profiles 
  • Produce reports for annual audits and verify reconciliation of funds with our accounting department 
  • Participating in CAIR-SFBA’s Management Team, including attending regular meetings, providing advice to executives, and facilitating the achievement of organizational goals
  • Manage donor portfolio in collaboration with the Executive Director 
  • Develop and implement the donor recognition programs with support from the Development Coordinator 

Other duties as assigned, dependent on organizational needs and employee skills. All CAIR staff are required to assist in general duties such as answering phones, weekly outreach, and other office tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including compassionate communication, cultural sensitivity, problem-solving, and public speaking 
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or five or more years’ relevant work experience including at minimum three years managing staff and volunteers.
    • Experience with fundraising in the American Muslim community 
    • Grant writing and reporting experience 
    • Track record of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding various donor constituencies (e.g., individuals, foundations, and special event donors) 
  • Strong interpersonal skills both in person, by phone, and on virtual platforms to interface and collaborate with staff, community leaders, volunteers, and donors with professionalism and a willingness to learn from others through hearing different perspectives. 
  • Strong time management, including being intentional about planning ahead based on goals and desired outcomes; ability to prioritize projects and tasks among competing deadlines. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Network for Good or other comparable CRM platform, and virtual and social media platforms. 
  • Commitment to social justice and CAIR’s mission and values. 
  • Familiarity, knowledge, and experience working with the American Muslim community. 
  • Flexibility to adjust and contribute to continually evolving work situations and changing priorities. 

Compensation

  • Compensation in the range of $118,648-$130,310/annually, commensurate with experience 
  • Fully paid Kaiser Health Insurance and Blue Cross PPO Dental Plan for employee and dependents 
  • 3% retirement matching contribution 
  • 12 paid holidays, 10 sick days, and 12 vacation days
