The California chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) today welcomed the recognition of American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month by the city of San Ramon, Calif.

For the eighth consecutive year, California designated August as American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month. The city of San Ramon will commemorate this designation with a proclamation presentation at its city council meeting this evening. The ceremony will take place during the first few minutes of the meeting.

In its proclamation, the city recognized the San Ramon Valley Islamic Center and the San Ramon American Muslim community for their contributions to the San Ramon community. Nadia Ann-Shahab, president, Board of Directors, San Ramon Valley Islamic Center, will accept the proclamation on behalf of the San Ramon Muslim community. 

In a statement, CAIR-SFBA Executive Director Zahra Billoo said: 

“CAIR-SFBA deeply appreciates the continued recognition of the diverse and invaluable achievements of American Muslims, whose dedication and contributions continue to shape the city of San Ramon, California, and the nation. This proclamation helps to highlight our shared values and humanity and is a welcome acknowledgment.” 

Ann-Shahab added“I am deeply grateful to the city of San Ramon for its thoughtful recognition of the San Ramon Valley Islamic Center during American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month. This proclamation symbolizes the values of inclusivity and unity that our community holds dear. Thank you for standing with us and for fostering an atmosphere of respect and appreciation for all faiths and cultures.”
