CAIR-CA hosted its 13th Annual Muslim Day at the Capitol in Sacramento. More than 850 American #Muslim activists attended 70 meetings with legislative offices to advocate for three CAIR-CA-sponsored bills addressing essential issues in our community—AB 2377 (authored by Assemblymember @luzmrivas), AB 2763 (authored by Assemblymember @billessayli), and the Resolution Condemning Islamophobia and Palestinian Hate (authored by @senatornewmanca). AB 2377, which aims to grant K-12 students an exemption from P.E. during a period of religious fasting, was unanimously passed through the #California State Assembly! @cairgla today strongly condemned the violent attacks by a mob of pro-Israel extremists on UCLA’s peaceful anti-genocide student encampment last night, injuring several people, and called on law enforcement to identify and prosecute those responsible.
In a statement, CAIR-LA Executive Director @hussam.ayloush said: “We strongly condemn this mob of pro-Israel extremists for violently attacking students at the UCLA encampment last night and we call on political leaders to do the same. Free speech should never be met with crimes of hate. The pro-Israel extremists responsible for last night’s violence must be identified and prosecuted.
“Across our nation, students who have launched peaceful marches, sit-ins, and encampments to protest their institution’s financial investments in the Israeli government have been met with a campaign of disinformation, discrimination, and now disturbing violence. This must end. UCLA and other schools must ensure that students can continue to peacefully protest the genocide in Gaza without facing attacks by violent pro-Israel mobs.”

CAIR-CA CEO @hussam.ayloush at yesterday's Muslim Day at the Capitol: "We see a rise, especially when there are foreign issues happening, conflicts, attacks, wars, such as the war on Gaza. We see a rise in anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian attacks. So, yes, there is a need for Muslims to continue to engage, challenge misperceptions, challenge the voices of hate that exist in our country."

Over 600 participants are expected to attend CAIR-CA's 13th annual Muslim Day at the Capitol tomorrow. The daylong MDAC program, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will provide attendees from across California with the opportunity to meet with state legislators and staff. The meetings will focus on advocating for critical CAIR-CA-sponsored bills, each addressing significant issues affecting the community: --AB-2377: Grants students a religious exemption for fasting during physical education.
--AB-2763: Mandates the inclusion of a “Middle Eastern or North African” category in demographic data collected by state agencies, boards, and commissions.
--Resolution Condemning Islamophobia and Palestinian Hate: Denounces the surge in Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian discrimination in California, acknowledging the state’s commitment to religious freedom and cultural diversity. The community will also actively oppose SB-1287, which infringes on students’ rights to free speech and the free exchange of ideas, fundamental to the academic environment in colleges and universities.
