(California, 3/3/17) The California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA), is calling on community members to contact their State Senators.

The final vote in the Senate for SB 31 is fast approaching. It is critical that we reach out and tell our California Senators to vote in support of the bill.

SB 31: California Religious Freedom Act

  • This bill would prevent a state or local agency, or a public employee from participating in a federal program to create a database based on a person's religious belief, practice or affiliation, national origin, or ethnicity, for law enforcement or immigration purposes. It would also prevent the state and local law enforcement agencies from collecting information on the religious belief, practice, or affiliation of an individual. The bill prohibits the use of state and local resources to create a religious database and would terminate any existing agreements that make any agency or department information or database available in conflict with these provisions.

Take Action

Although the recent  emergency stay on Trump's executive order is in effect, our efforts in protecting the civil liberties of Muslims are far from over. CAIR California is co-sponsoring SB 31 in order to proactively defend the California Muslim community from any possible "registry" and protect vulnerable communities from discriminatory federal immigration policies.
