Dear community,

Yesterday, CAIR held a news conference at its Capitol Hill headquarters in Washington, D.C., to announce the filing of a federal lawsuit on behalf of more than 20 named and "john doe" individuals, including myself, challenging the constitutionality of President's Trump's recent "Muslim ban" executive order.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court – Eastern District of Virginia, states that the order is unconstitutional because its apparent purpose and underlying motive is to ban people of the Islamic faith in Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.

Your CAIR-SV team is working around the clock to resist this attempt at targeting our community, by doing the following:

1) direct legal services for impacted individuals and their families

2) community education through know your rights workshops and public safety trainings, and forums

3) dozens of media interviews to ensure Muslim voices are amplified in response to the executive order

4) collaboration and coordination with other partners doing this work

We are currently in the process of launching an Immigration Clinic to provide critical services to the community. Can you help fund this urgent work to protect all of us from the #MuslimBan?

Do your part to make a difference! Your funds help us provide legal support and other services that protect and empower the community. Our office has been inundated with calls by community members requesting information and legal assistance for family members affected by this Executive Order. CAIR-SV cannot provide these crucial services without support of community members. Please consider becoming a monthly donor or making a one-time donation now! Every dollar counts.

Sincerely,

Basim Elkarra
