The Sacramento Valley office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SV) welcomed yesterday's Sacramento Bee article by columnist Marcos Breton exposing a vicious anti-Muslim campaign waged against our Executive Director Basim Elkarra.

According to the Sacramento Bee columnist: "Elkarra is highly visible in this role and has been quoted in many Sacramento Bee stories on various topics related to CAIR's mission as a national civil rights group. He has spoken out against terrorism and has been a voice for inclusion.

Statement released by CAIR-SV President T. Sami Siddiqui:

"American Muslims have a culture of giving back to their communities and have made tremendous strides in the field of civic engagement. With every success, it's only natural that those who oppose unity, tolerance, and progress make such hateful attacks. This only solidifies our resolve to work for a more pluralistic society in which American Muslims are accepted and integrated into all facets of society. The Sacramento Muslim community has always enjoyed great relations with our fellow community members and these incidents only strengthen our resolve to promote justice and understanding."

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
