A look into some recent complaints received by CAIR’s Northern California offices:

  • A gentleman was let go from his job at a local grocery store over an issue with his new manager and his Fajr prayer, even though he had worked at the store for many years without having prayer break issues. Several friends at his regular mosque referred him to CAIR. A CAIR attorney met personally with the gentleman, explained to him his rights, and agreed to help his communicate with the grocery store in the hopes of getting his job back. After a CAIR attorney sent a letter to the grocery store’s manager the gentleman was reinstated and was given a new shift allowing him to more easily perform his prayers.
  • A woman called CAIR for help after several FBI agents approached her regarding a suspicious activity report (SAR) filed against her. A CAIR attorney immediately called the FBI agents and discovered that there were several anonymous reports filed against the woman, and there was reason to believe the false reports were being submitted as a form of harassment. The CAIR attorney and FBI agents discussed the situation and agreed to an in-person meeting to clear the woman’s name and discuss what the FBI was going to do to prevent further harassment. Following the meeting with the FBI agents and the CAIR attorney, the woman cleared her name, and helped the FBI identify the person behind the false submissions.
