Join the California chapter of the Council on American – Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) in applauding California Governor Brown, Congressional members and Mayors of various cities who have taken a stance to resettle Syrian refugees.
In a statement this past Monday Governor Brown called to retain “America’s traditional role as a place of asylum.” Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez urged the country “to have compassion and commit to providing the necessary resources to address this ongoing crisis.”
Since the beginning of the uprising in Syria in March of 2011, over 220,000 Syrians have been killed. The conflict has also produced four million refugees. President Obama has directed his administration to accept at least 10,000 in the next fiscal year.
“California, under the leadership of Governor Brown, members of Congress and various mayors, has led all states in addressing a wide variety of the most challenging issues of our time,” said Haroon Manjlai, the Public Affairs Coordinator for CAIR-LA. “The humanitarian crisis in Syria is perhaps the greatest manmade disaster of our time, and as it is addressed through diplomatic and political channels, we are proud to see California take whatever action it can to welcome the refugees of this conflict.”
