The Council on American-Islamic Relations, San Francisco Bay Area continues to be committed to the development of our community’s future leaders.
CAIR-SFBA congratulates Islamic Scholarship Foundation – CAIR scholarship recipient Salma Y. Rizvi.
Here’s a Thank You note from the scholarship recipient to the generous donors who contributed to her learning experience:

“Dear Sponsors of the CAIR – ISF Scholarship,

As-salaam-Alaikom.

I am thankful for your generous contribution toward my higher education. Ever since I was a little girl, I was mesmerized by the wonderful advocacy and community work done by CAIR, and I am honored to now be a recipient of the CAIR-ISF scholarship.

It is critical that organizations such as ISF and CAIR continue to support rising leaders in the community. I endeavor to embark upon a political career after completing my Juris Doctorate from the New York University School of Law. I hope to impact public policy and public opinion, and the support provided to me by CAIR is invaluable.

I just returned from a summer in Ramallah, Palestine, working as a legal intern for Al-Haq and defending the human rights of all Palestinians. Undoubtedly, having this type of work on my resume may negatively impact my future opportunities due to prevailing bias throughout America. Still, it is necessary to fight for justice and freedom even when controversial. It is even more important that Muslim organizations such as CAIR and ISF stand in solidarity with students doing this work by empowering students with political and financial support.

I am blessed to receive such support, and I am eager to pay it forward. If I can do anything for CAIR in the future, please let me know. Thank you again for your kindness and faith in my candidacy.

With warm regards and deep appreciation,
Salmah Y. Rizvi

J.D. Candidate, 2016
