The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Yemen for 18 months through September 3, 2024. Current TPS beneficiaries from Yemen must re-register by March 6, 2023, to maintain their status. First-time applicants have until September 3, 2024, to register.
To be eligible for initial TPS registration, a Yemeni national must have continuously resided in the U.S. since December 29, 2022, and have been physically present since March 4, 2023.
TPS holders can:
- Stay in the USA legally through the TPS period
- Apply for a work permit
- Apply to travel internationally
- Be protected from detention and deportation
